Steps to a Likeness:
Portrait Workshop
5 days
with
Perrin Sparks
SFCA
July 7-11,
2008
Working with a live model, artists will
be provided with some tips and classical techniques for obtaining a
likeness in pastel, oil or acrylic (any opaque medium). Perri will work
primarily in pastel and oil.
Class sizes will be small (6 or less)
with plenty of individual attention.
Following a demonstration of the basic
steps, each artist will produce a portrait that leads them thru the
basics of measuring, establishing a two-tone underpainting, introducing
cool and warm colors, and finding’ lost’ and ‘found’ edges.
The focus will be on bringing in vibrant
colors and storytelling to a process that is applicable beyond
portraiture.
Each artist is encouraged to produce a
self-portrait that develops as each session introduces new techniques
and they may bring also in a piece they are currently working on for
critique.
